Atwood heater

I have a 2006 bounder 34h. I am having a problem with atwood heater that is mounted on the passenger side slide. When the slide is in the heater works as it should. When the slide is out the heater tries to lite I smell propane but does not lite, tries 3 times the locks out the heater. Any ideas?

I haven't seen that problem, but I wonder if it might be a loose connection or bad solder joint at the igniter that's pulled slightly loose when the slide is out.

The propane is flowing, since you can smell it, but failing to ignite -- suggesting a problem with the igniter which generates a spark to light the furnace.
