Set the Vista Default Browser Manually

Vista sets the default browser to Internet Explorer on installation (surprise, surprise). When you install another browser, you can usually set it to be the default the first time it runs. If you change your mind later, you can follow these steps to set the default browser manually:

  1. Press the Windows key.
  2. Select Default Programs near the bottom of the right-hand menu.
  3. Click on Set your default programs.
  4. Select your favorite browser from the list at the left.
  5. On the right side, click on Set this program as default.
  6. Click on OK.
  7. Close the window.
Note that the browser must be installed before it will show up on the list.
